Academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering; foreign academician of the U.S. National Academy of Medicine and the Academia Europaea; academician of the European Academy of Sciences and Arts; member of the Academic Advisory Committee of the Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences. Vice President of the Chinese Academy of Engineering; President of the Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences & Peking Union Medical College; Director of the National Center for Respiratory Medicine. Holds several key professional positions at the World Health Organization (WHO). Editor-in-Chief of the Chinese Medical Journal. Graduated from Capital Medical University with a Bachelor's degree in Clinical Medicine in 1985, and earned a Doctor of Medicine degree from Capital Medical University in 1991. Served as a visiting scholar at the University of Texas Medical School in the United States in 1994. From August 1985 to August 2010, served as Deputy Director, Vice President, and President of Beijing Chao-Yang Hospital. From August 2010 to January 2013, served as Vice President of Beijing Hospital. From January 2013 to September 2014, served as Deputy Director-General (presiding) of the Department of Science, Technology and Education, National Health and Family Planning Commission. From September 2014 to January 2018, served as President of China-Japan Friendship Hospital. From January 2018 to present, served as President of the Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences & Peking Union Medical College. From May 2018 to present, serves as Vice President of the Chinese Academy of Engineering. Established a clinical medical center for respiratory diseases, and has been engaged in medical treatment, education, and research in areas such as pulmonary embolism and pulmonary hypertension, emerging respiratory infectious diseases, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, and tobacco medicine.
